FAMILIES

(1) Foster (v) = nurture = bring up

(2) Affluent (adj) = weathy = rich

(3) Combat the outside world = conquer the world: chiến đấu với thế giới bên ngoài

(4) Be self-reliant: tự chủ

It has been a debate whether or not growing up in poor families can help children have better preparation for solving problems in their future life. From my perspective, I completely agree with this opinion.

Some can argue that children who are fostered in affluent families are better prepared for some reasons. One of them could be that they believe if children are brought up in better financial backgrounds, children can focus more on their studies at schools including learning problem-solving skills. In fact, many parents think the best preparation for their children is through education, so they can do whatever to make sure their children have the best learning environment. However, it appears to be a short-sighted view. Admittedly, schools can teach children skills to address problems, but it is just theoretical and does not help much for children to combat the real world when they become adults.

On the contrary, being brought up in poor families can equip children many things to deal with problems. First, it teaches children how to live independently and to be responsible for their life. In fact, unlike those who live in weathy families and receive huge support from parents, poor children have to be self-reliant with everything in their life from the smallest things like cooking or washing to making their own money to cover their daily expenses. Furthermore, it also helps children develop important traits and characteristics, such as determination and hard work, to conquer the world. Because of living in poor conditions, they tend to work hard and be more determined to live out of poverty.

In conclusion, although some might think that living in rich families offers children better preparation for problem-solving skills, I still hold the belief that children who are brought up in less wealthy families are better prepared.
